Day 4: Elko, Nevada to Red Bluff, California

Today we finished off leg 1 of our trip. This was the quick trip from Dayton, Ohio to Red Bluff, California where I grew up. We will be spending the week with my mother. Today was our shortest day at around 480 miles. The whole trip out here was 2,387 miles.

We took the lesser traveled route from Reno through the Northern California mountains. This helped us to avoid much of the heat. This is a part of California that most people are not familiar with.

Off in the distance is Mt. Lassen. Unfortunately, this picture does not do it justice. Mt. Lassen is still an active volcano with many hot springs and sulfur pits. riding through this area brought back memories of the many camping trips I did in this part of the country as a Boy Scout.

Here is the route that we took to get out to California. Since we will be spending the next few days here I will be turning off the Spotwalla tracker until we start up our third leg of the trip.

Note: you can follow the route of our trip at https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=112ce5760b6e027cdf. You need to select the trip name in the upper left-hand corner, then Adjustments and select All Days to see the whole trip.
