Well, we made out of Ohio without a hitch. Our first objective was Portillo's up in the Chicago area. Laura grew up in Chicago and it has been a long time since we had a Portillo's Chicago dog or Beef Sandwich. With that in mind, I planned the trip around dinner in Merrillville, IN.
From here we stayed off of 80 for a while because it was quite obvious that Friday evening traffic on the freeway around Chicago was going to be stop-and-go traffic. Our destination to spend the night was originally planned for Moline, IL, but with such great time on the trip and good weather we pushed another 200 miles and made it to Des Moines. Tomorrow will now be 600 miles instead of the original 800 planned as we head for Cheyenne, WY.
